No person in public life may be free to impugn the patriotism of any minority group because of that group’s opinion in respect to religion. President George Bush (the first one) should have been censured for his public expression of August 27, 1987, at which time he stated: “I don’t know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.”

PALM SPRINGS ATHEISTS FIGHT DISCRIMINATION LOCALLY AND AGAINST SUCH COMPANIES AS MYSPACE

Palm Springs Atheists exists in the Coachella Valley to promote the civic understanding and acceptance of atheism (freethinkers) in our community.

The organization meets once a month to accomplish this purpose. All atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, humanists, etc., are welcome.

We also, through educational programs, projects, and publications, extend atheistic perspectives concerning the separation of church and state and the right to think and speak freely on these perspectives.

More than 30,000,000 Americans are atheists and freethinkers.

This is a larger group than the Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterian and Lutherans combined.

During the last decade, Christianity only grew by 5% and the nonreligious/secular increased in numbers by 110%.

Despite the large numbers of Atheists — secularists, humanists, agnostics, non-believers — are discriminated against continually.

The Christian militants have forced such companies as MYSPACE (read following article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer) to close a website where thousands of YOUNG ATHEISTS gathered.

It is time for atheists (and all freethinkers) to organize and make it known we are no longer the “silent minority.”

The Democratic and GOP political candidates ignore us. They gather at the feet of the religious right but shun freethinkers.

It is time to be heard.

Time to change.

Palm Springs Atheists March Meeting

Come and meet other freethinkers in the desert area. We would like our group to be a place for free discussion, without worry about prosecution because of our beliefs. If you would like to meet like minded freethinkers, atheist, and agnostics in the desert and get together for fun and support come to our next meeting on March 6th @ 6:00pm. We are going to meet at Marie Callender’s in Rancho Mirage.
